Who's leading my group again?
Today was interesting.
My group, instead of being the usual hodgepodge of families and scout troops and friends and the like, was the owner's family reunion trip.
It was good fun, despite knowing that the guy sitting next to me on the bus has absolute power over my job. It's really nice to be able to get video of all the random stuff people do on the trip without worrying about whether the people outside that little group will find it funny. Everyone knows each other, so everyone laughed when, say, the three older ladies who are sisters pushed an adult daughter out of the raft so I could get a shot with just the sisters.

Odd Event of the Day: One of the older kids found a live hummingbird floating in the water. It was a young one, so it didn't have all of its flight feathers yet, but once he got it out of the water and let it dry off, it flew off into the brush. I've seen that kind of thing with other birds, but never a hummingbird.

Also, I flipped twice (once as a reult of surfing, once as a result of being stupid at Surprise) and swam once -- at Surprise, of course. I still got video of both Surprise and the next rapid, because I'm getting the whole timing thing down pretty well.

. .  and I have my camera back, but now my cell phone is broken. So, to anyone who wants to call me: Don't bother. I can't answer anyway.

Backstory

When I applied to be a video boater, I had been whitewater kayaking a total of 10 times. I had practically no gear, and I hadn't been in a kayak in 8 months. They hired me anyway, probably because I have video experience.
This is a chronicle of my journey, beginning as a newbie who's still a bit scared of Class II+ rapids and finishing (hopefully) as a skilled video boater who can have fun in Class V water.
