Vacation?
I'm in teh C-bus for a bit, in order to attend Breathe -- the big fest/conference/camping-in-field deal my church does every summer.
As you may have inferred from that, I'm driving again. I can't say for sure that the pain in my shoulder is less every day, but it's certainly not as bad as it was a few days ago.

Also, I got myself a new helmet -- an ember-red Sweet Strutter. It's made of carbon fiber and has a brim so the sun and rain won't get in my eyes so much. It was a bit on the expensive side, but it should last me a long time, even if I do get slammed into rocks now and then. Hopefully my next helmet purchase will be a full-face one for running steep creeks . . .

Also, I get to (hopefully) go buy rappelling gear this weekend, seeing as one of the shops in the area is giving 50% off to members of the outdoor club I'm in. No more standing at the top of a steep riverbank going, "Man, I wish I could climb down there with this camera!" while the boys run something crazy and awesome.

. . . I just realized I never mentioned them running Mill Creek. It was great -- the first time Justin and I got to watch kayakers go off a waterfall in person. I used John's camera (a Canon D40!) and got this pic of Sam dropping Mill Creek Falls:
That was the only really good pic in the bunch, unfortunately, because it was 7:30pm on a gray day and we were in the bottom of a valley. Hopefully it works out better next time.

In other news, it's way too hot to be camping in a big open field this weekend. Then again, it almost always is at Breathe, and we manage to have fun anyway. Here's hoping it all goes well . . .

Backstory

When I applied to be a video boater, I had been whitewater kayaking a total of 10 times. I had practically no gear, and I hadn't been in a kayak in 8 months. They hired me anyway, probably because I have video experience.
This is a chronicle of my journey, beginning as a newbie who's still a bit scared of Class II+ rapids and finishing (hopefully) as a skilled video boater who can have fun in Class V water.
